Arts & Crafts Specialist Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Training and experience in creative arts & crafts project planing and execution
Ability to teach campers 4-14 years of age how to make creative arts & crafts projects
Knowledge and ability to set up arts & crafts area and program
Good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience
Must possess a high school diploma or be at least 18 years of age

General Responsibility: To plan, lead and teach Sierra Canyon’s arts & crafts program.

Specific Responsibility:
Set up arts & crafts area during staff training week.
Teach staff their responsibilities in arts & crafts during staff training.
Teach and monitor proper use of supplies and equipment.
Engage campers and staff in enjoyable arts & crafts activities which foster achievement from beginner to more advanced levels.
Conduct initial and end-of-season arts & crafts inventory of supplies, ensuring necessary materials for camp program.
Assist with overall camp activities regarding arts & crafts on camp theme days.
Evaluate current season and staff, and make recommendations for equipment, supplies, and program for following season.
Be an active staff member among campers other than at activity area.
Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up, and sportsmanship.
Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.


Essential Functions:
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill level), and provide arts & crafts instruction to campers.
Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the site and activity.
Must be able to assist campers in the prevention of and in emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury); observe loading and unloading of buses and vans; and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
