Wall Specialist Job Description
Minimum
Qualifications:
 |
Training
and experience in the mechanical operational
aspects and usage of the
Extreme Engineering Mobile Climbing Wall
models MW 3-MW5 |
 |
Ability to teach and
demonstrate safe climbing skills to campers |
 |
Ability to teach proper
usage of safety harness equipment to campers |
 |
Ability and agility to
physically climb rock wall on a daily basis |
 |
Must have a physical
weight between 45-250 lbs, per manufacturer
guidelines |
 |
Ability to maintain Climbing
Wall in good working order throughout the
summer |
 |
Good character, integrity,
adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor,
and patience |
 |
Must be at least 18 years
of age |
General
Responsibility: To teach and
help coordinate Sierra Canyon’s Climbing
Wall program, maintaining standards that lead
to a safe quality program
Specific
Responsibility:
 |
Set up Climbing
Wall area prior to activity. |
 |
Write safety regulations
for the Climbing Wall activity area and
review them with staff and children. |
 |
Teach, demonstrate and
monitor proper use of Climbing Wall and
safety harnesses. |
 |
Engage children in enjoyable
Climbing Wall activities. |
 |
Conduct daily safety
check of Rock Wall apparatus to ensure total
system is in good repair per daily written
inspection record. |
 |
Make necessary Rock
Wall repairs and replenish hydraulic fluids
as needed, and recommend/perform necessary
Climbing Wall part replacements. |
 |
Conduct initial and
end-of-season equipment inventory of supplies. |
 |
Evaluate current season,
and make recommendations for equipment,
supplies, and program for following season. |
 |
Set a good example and
be a positive role model for children and
others including motivation, encouragement,
and sportsmanship. |
 |
Follow camp rules and
regulations pertaining to smoking, alcoholic
beverages, and illegal drugs. |
 |
Encourage respect for
personal property, camp equipment, and facilities. |
 |
These are not the only
duties to be performed. Some duties may
be reassigned and other duties may be assigned
as required. |
Essential Functions:
 |
Ability
to communicate and work with groups participating
(age and skill level), and provide necessary
Climbing Wall usage instruction to campers. |
 |
Abilities to observe
participants behavior, assess its appropriateness,
enforce appropriate safety regulations and
emergency procedures, and apply appropriate
behavior management techniques. |
 |
Visual and auditory
ability to identify and respond to environmental
and other hazards related to the site and
activity, and physical ability to demonstrate
proper Rock Wall usage. |
 |
Must have the physical
ability to stand upright for long periods
of time (one hour intervals) in order to
respond to childrens assistance on the Climbing
Wall, and have the physical ability to climb
the wall on a regular basis. |
 |
Must be physically able
to assist children in the prevention of
and in emergency (fire, evacuation, illness,
or injury); observe loading and unloading
of buses and vans; and possess the strength
and endurance required to maintain constant
supervision of children. |
