How will my child be placed in a group?
Children are grouped according to grade level and age. All groups are co-ed and are supervised by at least one head counselor, one junior counselor and two CITs throughout the day. We always try to accommodate your group requests..

What is a unit?
Sierra Canyon is divided into two units. Unit I consists of children entering Pre-Kindergarten through 1st Grade. Unit II includes children entering 2nd Grade and above as well as specialty camps (Sports World, Adventure Camp, Teen Camp, Movie Making Camp and Culinary Camp).

Is the Pool Safe?
Aquatics Staff - Each day your child will swim under the supervision of seven experienced American Red Cross certified lifeguards and instructors, as well as several counselors who are trained in water rescue techniques.

Swim Testing and Ability - On the first day of camp, your child’s swimming abilities will be assessed and each camper will be assigned to an area of the pool according to his or her swimming capabilities. “Free Swim” allows each child to choose from a variety of aquatic activities, including different types of water games, floating devices, and diving boards while interacting with other campers and counselors.

The Sierra Canyon Day Camp Water Slide - In addition to our wide variety of aquatic activities, at certain times swimmers who have been tested and deemed “swim safe” enjoy our totally tubular 110’ water slide.

Swim Instruction - Campers entering Pre-Kindergarten through 1st Grade will receive swim instruction for the first 20 minutes of their daily swim program. Campers entering 2nd Grade will receive instruction based on our assessment or on parents’ requests. Our instruction is divided into four swim groups, which are based on the American Red Cross guidelines for swim instruction, ranging from basic beginner to intermediate classes. Each child is placed in the appropriate swim group, where he or she learns new swimming skills and reviews essential lifesaving techniques.

Medical Needs/Attention - The main concern of the Sierra Canyon Day Camp aquatics staff is to provide your child with a fun and safe summer. If your child needs any special medical attention, such as ear plugs or sunscreen (which we provide), or if he or she cannot swim because of an illness, please send a note with your child to camp.
